University entrance procedures

Requirements for entrance

To enter a particular university, it is necessary to get a secondary education certificate and pass the entrance examinations set by the university. Getting a degree in state universities is allowed by law for all people regardless of citizenship and ethnicity (getting a university degree is free of charge if the language used for learning is Czech. If the language is English, education is paid). The entrance procedures take place according to a general selection process irrespective of citizenship; it makes no difference if you are German, Ukrainian, Kazakh or Russian. The most important thing is to get the highest number of points for entrance examinations (there are both oral and written exams depending on university; there can be interviews as well). There are some branches in certain universities which you can enter without entrance examinations.

Nostrification

One obligatory condition for enrollment into a Bachelor programme of study is a nostrified copy of your secondary education certificate. If you planning to enter a Master’s degree programme, you have to get your Bachelor’s degree diploma nostrified. Nostrification is the recognition of the equivalence of an educational qualification attained in another country to the corresponding Czech qualification. As a rule, students have to sit a nostrification exam. The list of documents necessary for nostrification can be found in the Nostrification section.

Entrance examinations

Entrance examinations usually take place between May-June.

Beginning of studies

Studies usually begin in September or October.
