Financial support for students

Students can get financial support from the budget of the Ministry of Labour and Social Issues or from the Ministry of Youth, Education and Sport.

Students receive direct financial support from the Ministry of Youth, Education and Sport by means of higher education institutions in the form of the so-called „allowance for accommodation“, which partly covers the expenses for accommodation, and indirect financial support in the form of subsidies for food, which means that if a student has an international student card (ISIC Card), they can eat in university canteens at reduced prices (the so-called student prices). This card also offers a wide range of discounts for international journeys (buses, flights and so on), as well as discounts for various shops and entertainment establishments. The sum of money allocated from the budget of the ministry to a higher education institution is divided among the students in compliance with scholarship regulations, which are included in internal regulations. These rules determine the final amount of the so-called accommodation allowance. The majority of students live in halls of residence, but they can also rent a  room, a flat and so on.

Students with good progress in studies are granted a „high performance scholarship“(prospechove stipendium). To be entitled to receive this scholarship, students have to attain a superior academic average (and receive all credits and pass all exams on time). The scholarship is paid once a month, and its sum depends on the particular university and faculty.

Hardship allowance (e.g. child support) is for students younger than 26 years old, regardless of their educational institution type and depending on the financial state of their families.

Students are entitled to receive hardship allowance (allowance for a child) if they comply to  legal regulations and have insufficient family income. The income must not exceed the sum of subsistence minimum and quotient 1,5. Today the allowance is 1620 crowns a month, which is paid at the end of every semester for the whole academic year of 10 months.

Scholarships are also paid to doctorate students, in accordance with the scholarship regulations implemented by each particular university. This scholarship amounts to 5000-10000 crowns a month (depending on the chosen university and faculty).
