Zvikov
Zvikov castle has retained its medieval appearance almost entirely unchanged. This powerful fortress, which withstood the test of time, survived a lot of sieges and was considered to be practically invincible. In the 18th century the fortress towered on the rock, securing trade ways passing through the Vltava and Otava rivers. Before the building of Karlstejn, Royal regalia was kept in an inaccessible Zvikov fortress. Massive towers fortified the castle, and in the event of an attack it was possible to hide here and withstand a long siege.
